About Us
SATIB had the privilege of breaking ground in terms of providing cover for the tourism industry over 21 years ago. From humble beginnings
insuring wild game in transit to private reserves around Africa, SATIB has since developed 5 specialised business units:
- Tourism and Leisure
- Wildlife
- Life and Investments
- Domestic
- Commercial and Industrial
The values of SATIB were born out of a family business, founded by
current Chairman Brian Courtenay in 1990. By rewarding innovation, listening to their client’s needs and
tabling these with insurers both locally and abroad, the business was able to develop and secure products to ensure
the needs of these specialized markets were customised and catered for.
SATIB, a level 3 BBE status company, have continued in that spirit and today offer the same level of skill,
care and diligence to both corporate and private clients around Africa.

Values and Mission
People make a brand – a cliché perhaps but it certainly rings
true within SATIB. Most companies have a mission statement that hangs
prominently in boardrooms and reception areas. The difference with ours is that we live it!
Our Mission is to provide specialist insurance broking and risk management services
to our clients, underwriters and related industry associations in sub-Saharan Africa ensuring peace of mind in terms
of risk transfer. We strive to lead the industry through constant innovation, service delivery and efficient claims
settlement within these specialist business sectors, whist developing and promoting sustainable business practises
within our areas of influence.
At SATIB we respect and encourage innovation and the spirit of entrepreneurship, it fuelled our founding members!
Professionalism is a broad term but for us it means being at the top of our game. We have chosen to house specialists
within each business unit to ensure the highest levels of professionalism and advice. We strive to exceed our clients'
expectations by providing quality products and services, delivered with pride in a courteous, efficient and timeous manner.
Reliability and integrity are a “must” for a company that offers risk transfer as its cornerstone.
We believe in the value of teamwork, undertaken in the best interest of our customers and characterised by a spirit of
mutual trust and ethical behaviour. We believe in the decentralisation of responsibility and authority with specific
accountability and strict financial controls. We encourage ownership with each member of our team being a shareholder.
We are able attract individuals with the self-motivation and discipline required to deliver the highest levels of service
and best advice to clients throughout Africa. Lastly, but most importantly we are driven by a deep seated environmental ethic
that leads us to conduct our business in the most sustainable way possible, constantly looking for further ways to improve our business practise.

Outstanding Features
GPS Mapping
A unique value added service is the new GPS mapping system, which
enables SATIB and their underwriters to ‘map’ their clients’
properties, in particular those clients who own multiple properties in
various African territories or in any particular location, such as
multiple camps in a national park. The system also facilitates the
mapping of natural disaster exposures such as floods or cyclones as
well as lightning strike densities throughout our operational regions.
This information can then be used to alert clients of the potential
disaster and risk exposure to facilitate appropriate risk transfer or
the timely evacuation of guests and staff.
Digital Portfolio
As part of our green commitment SATIB is proud to offer clients digital
documents via a secure digital insurance portfolio or if specifically
requested the option of receiving traditional ‘hard copy’ policy
document. Clients can access their insurance information via SATIB’s
intranet 24/7, no matter where in the world they happen to be at the
time. Support our commitment to the preservation of the environment and
a paper-free office.
Insight E-News
Be kept informed of the latest tourism and risk news through our
monthly Insight newsletter. SATIB’s Marketing Department sifts through
the clutter of news and information on a daily basis to bring you only
news that is relevant to your business in a brief, easy to read format
every month. Topics are related to client news, green news, risk
management, industry updates, asking the experts and SATIB internal
news and industry trends and developments. To subscribe to the Insight
Newsletter, click here.
Tattler Subscription
SATIB clients receive an annual digital subscription to the Tourism
Tattler trade journal – a quality bi-monthly publication that keeps you
up to date on issues that impact on the tourism trade within southern
Africa. To subscribe to the Tourism Tattler, click here.
Information Booklets
SATIB regularly print information booklets on risk and insurance
issues. Copies of these booklets can be requested by clients for
distribution to their staff or by tourism related associations for
distribution to their members.
License Decals
License disk holders are hard to come by so SATIB have printed their
own, which are available to clients on request at no extra charge.
Seal of Approval
SATIB provides their clients with an innovative “SATIB Insurance
Brokers – Certified” seal of approval logo, which is available on
request for use on marketing material. The website version of the logo

an insurance component ONLY available to SATIB clients. It forms an

SATIB Green
SATIB have taken the environment seriously from the start. Our founding
member himself, Brian Courtenay, was and is a keen conservationist and
this ethos has remained central to our operation and influences many of
the decisions we make. Environmental sustainability is written into our
values and each staff member joining our operation buys into this on
arrival.
- We are committed to sustainable business development. We have partnered
with the Wilderness Foundation and drive Green Leaf Environmental
Standards throughout our organisation ensuring innovation and
efficiencies in waste, energy, procurement and water management.
Our aim is to reduce the effects of consumption on the environment and
improve upon environmental management and awareness in an eco-friendly
manner throughout our scope of influence. The Green Leaf Environmental
Standard is an international benchmark which measures environmental and
social indicators key to sustainability while inspiring environmental
and social change through education, awareness and continual
improvement aimed at owners, management, employees and consumers alike.
Our Green promise is to:
- Raise environmental awareness throughout our scope of influence
- Support those who design and construct in an environmentally
responsible manner
- Reduce direct environmental operating consumption and costs
- Provide a framework for continual improvement of environmental
performance
- Improve the corporate image of our industry
- Provide a carbon neutral environmental legacy
SATIB is also proud of its strategic partnership with Fair Trade in
Tourism South Africa (FTTSA).
FTTSA operates the world’s first tourism Fair Trade certification
programme which examines social, economic and environmental best
practice in South African tourism businesses - seeking a balance of all
three principles of sustainable development. SATIB endorses this
philosophy in their continued support of FTTSA.
Both the Green Leaf Environmental Standards and FTTSA’s six fair trade
principles are in alignment with SATIB’s Social Responsibility Charter
and we are committed to encouraging our clients to participate in these
worthy initiatives, which is imperative if we are to grow a sustainable
tourism industry in South Africa.

Testimonials
“I cannot believe that we had been in business for over 20 years in such a mutually beneficial partnership.
While I appreciate time really flies, what dawned on me was the fact that this relationship has existed for so long
without any stress or conflict. It is seldom that you can reflect on a partnership where both parties have consistently
acted in the mutual interest of both parties and what pleases me more is that SATIB and their family, in my humble view,
holds our business close to their hearts.
In our business the potential liability risk arising from both damage to asset and injury to our guests is significant.
Without exception, SATIB has done a wonderful job to help professionally manage this exposure in our business. For this,
and for much more, I would like to thank you all and wish you many more prosperous years ahead.”
Andy Payne – CEO – Wilderness Safaris
"SATIB have delivered a dedicated service and developed the right cover
for our growing needs.
SATIB have treated us as a partner and not just
another client they can obtain revenue from.
SATIB have understood the
necessity for specialise insurance in the travel industry."
Russel Friedman – Founding Partner –
Wilderness Safaris
"Just a small note to let you know what swift and speedy service we
have received from your staff. It has been and always will be a
pleasure dealing with them."
Maureen – Barra Lodge
"I wanted to drop you a quick note to inform you that we at Quality
Vacations Club are extremely impressed with the service that we are
receiving from Natasha Heyns at your Johannesburg office. I felt it
necessary to inform you of this, as in this fast paced world that we
live in today, all people do is take the time to complain and I think
that hard working staff sometimes get overlooked."
Rynette Kachelhoffer, Human Resources
Manager – Quality Vacation Club

Brand Evolution
As with most companies that have been around for a few decades change is not only inevitable,
it is entirely necessary. SATIB has grown from its humble beginnings and so has the brand. July 2011 saw a facelift
for the well-loved logo and branding displaying the cleaner, crisper, more professional look and feel the company now portrays.
The colours red and black are dominant, strong and corporate with the foundation of green displaying our consideration for the
environment and continued efforts towards sustainable business.

What Inspires Us
We at SATIB believe that insight sets us apart from the rest. There are a
lot of insurance brokers out there with similar products and similar services.
What sets our team apart from the rest is our hunger to learn more about your needs,
the mindset and devotion of our team, the constant innovation and our desire to excel.
As with any company displaying longevity, we are inspired by our clients, their businesses
and experiences. It is through them that we continue to learn, grow and improve.

Compliance
Corporate Governance
SATIB is committed to achieving and upholding good corporate governance.
In this regard, the Directors and management team of SATIB recognise that corporate
governance is a business imperative and not a compliance issue. Based on this understanding,
the organisational culture encourages all areas of the business to exceed corporate governance
requirements in an ongoing quest for excellence, thus ensuring that everything SATIB does is ethical,
transparent and capable of standing up to rigorous scrutiny.
Financial Controls
SATIB’s success can be attributed to its financial discipline. All financial requirements are
prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices and in strict compliance with the Companies Act.
Internal Controls
These controls are designed to provide assurance regarding the integrity and reliability of all financial matters, especially
with regards to assets being adequately safeguarded against material loss and transactions being properly authorised and recorded.
There is an appropriate segregation of duties through clearly defined lines of accountability and delegation of authority.
